I'm not sure if everyone will get this, but if you are someone who watched "The Neverending Story" as a kid, I'm pretty sure you will, and hopefully you will have compassion for the sheer terror I felt in that moment as a child!
As it happened, my Nan struggled to remove my boots from that puddle, which we soon discovered was in fact a pretty nasty bog. Some folks had experienced trouble with vehicles and actual horses getting caught up in them around the area, although only ever up to their ankles as the muddy ditches weren't particularly deep. Regardless, I felt vindicated hearing this from locals later.
